I think this started the 'haunted items are worth more' phenomenon on auction sites such as Ebay. It started off at $199 and ended up fetching $1,050. There's no doubt it's a creepy looking picture which is far from calming and is actually quite unpleasant. The artist used a photo of himself as a youngster and built the image round that. His work is quite surreal but that's probably got more to do with his feelings of being given up for adoption at birth than anything else. I don't buy the idea of objects being haunted or cursed.

Yeah it seems that way doesn't it?
They certainly benefited from the story as demonstrated via the final sale price.

There is no way I'd want that hanging on a wall in my house.... but thats just because it looks naff!

I remember seeing an old episode of "Scream Team" all those years ago (remember that?) when they did a show about a haunted/cursed painting - they ended up burning it, if memory serves me right.  I've never been convinced about any object being haunted though, can't get my head around hauntings being real anyway, never mind a haunting then being associated with a particular object  :frantic:

On a slightly similar topic of creepy pictures - a friend of mine recounts some very fascinating tales of when she saw some images move in some paintings that one of her other friends used to own.  We're talking traditional oil paintings.  Apparently characters in them would physically move places in the paintings.     She witnessed this on more than one occasion and apparently has photos of them (but you never actually saw them moving, you'd only see them in various places - so in other words her photos will only show characters on the paintings in places A, B or C rather than mid-move, as it were)

I do hasten to add that I didn't know this lass back then so I have no idea whether she was the type that might've been high on drugs or away with the fairies!  :snigger:

The people who claimed the painting was haunted also said that the characters moved through the night and they'd sometimes leave the painting and enter the room. They claimed to have photos too.  :hyper:

Apparently someone was so intrigued by the story that they asked the artist to paint a 'sequel'. He did, showing the characters 40 years on. It's called 'Resistance at the Threshold' and it's no more appealing.  :shake:

Paintings with kids in them are always scary - especially those dour dark Victorian-looking style of paintings... very depressing!
