Welcome to OWNE

The Otherworld North East Research Society is a not-for-profit investigation and research association whose aim is to collate and examine the physical evidence for ghosts and other alleged supernatural occurrences with an objective eye. The Society is not an entertainment-based business, and do not run commercial ghost walks, nights or other similar events: we are not ghost-hunters, instead we simply seek to examine any physical evidence brought forward that is commonly perceived to belong to alleged supernatural phenomena.

Otherworld North East (OWNE) was founded in August 2003 and is based in the North East of England (though the Society has and will investigate outside of this area), with current investigative members based in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Teesside.

The Society operates through a strict code of conduct as a data collection unit, often blending historical research with environmental data collection and analysis. Where possible the Society’s intent is to employ the scientific method by generating and testing hypotheses and research questions in relation anomalous reports and experiences. The Society does not use alleged spiritual mediums, séances, talking boards or other more traditional techniques such as rod and pendulum dowsing during field investigations, though these methods may in some cases be used as a focal point of specific experimental investigation.

Investigators of Anomalous Phenomena in the North East of EnglandThe Society’s aim is to publish fieldwork and research findings into the public domain in the form of books, papers, monographs, reports, web pages and video sequences, utilising the most appropriate methods available, whilst adhering to our strict publication and confidentiality guidelines.

Fieldwork and research within the Society is funded by member subscriptions and donations: OWNE will never charge an individual, group, business or location for fieldwork and research undertaken.

OWNE are currently looking to recruit more investigators for 2012. For more information on how to join, please see our Join the Team page. We are also looking for feedback on this new website, so please feel free to Contact Us with any feedback you have, positive or negative.
